Senchenko plans USA debut!

By Alexey Sukachev

According to Yuri Ruban, the head of Donetsk-based Union Boxing Promotions, the newly crowned WBA regular welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (29-0, 20 KOs), 31, may defend his title for the first time in the USA. “We are currently negotiating with [American] promoters to bring Vyacheslav to the States and to put him in the same card with WBA super champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley with a hope for their partial unification, which will be the first ever fight of such type with the Ukrainian fighter taking his part in. If the agreement isn’t reached in ten days, we shall look for other opportunities also overseas,” was quoted Ruban by URA-Inform.Donbass media agency. “We are not planning a rematch against Yuri Nuzhnenko as there was no such clause in the contract for their first fight. K2 East representatives have already asked us about this possibility but we tend to reject their offer,” commented Yuri Ruban.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
