WBO junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-0, 23 KOs) spoke to Fightnews.com about his upcoming fight against WBC middleweight champion emeritus Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KOs) on March 12 at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The winner will get the WBC Diamond belt.
Camp Location: Preparation for the fight goes as we had planned, in Los Angeles. I am in training camp the second week. I’m working with a new trainer – James (Buddy) McGirt. He is an excellent trainer who has trained boxers like Antonio Tarver, Arturo Gatti, Nate Campbell, Vernon Forrest and Paul Malignaggi. In the past he was a great champion and in working with him I’ve received a lot that is useful to myself. He knows how to win big fights and Buddy will help me get recognition in America. Before this time I trained in Kiev, Ukraine. I’ve adapted to the time zones perfectly. I feel good.
Training Regimen: My training is Monday through Saturday for two-three hours. Now I’m working on physical preparation. For me this is very important because Sergio Martinez is a very strong fighter and I should be 100% ready for twelve rounds of persistent work in the ring. I will actively be engaged in sparring sessions in February.
Diet: I don’t limit myself. I eat many various things, but I understand that I can’t eat many foods made from flour. For meals I prefer meat, fruit and vegetables.
Personal Sacrifice: I am completely concentrated on preparation for fight against Sergio Martinez. This is my chance and I won’t miss it. I spent the New Year’s holidays with my family in Ukraine and now I’m ready to beat the best boxer of 2010. My time has come and in 2011 I’ll be the best. I don’t search for the easy way.
