WBC middleweight world champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez did not undergo surgery on his right knee Thursday as originally planned, confirming from Madrid, Spain through his official Twitter account that he is still investigating the extent of the injury and recovery time if there were to be an operation.
There are plans for Martinez to return in May 2013, possibly in a rematch against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Their first fight was hugely successful, producing 475,000 PPV buys, and the rematch could land at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas. One of the stipulations mentioned for that bout would be for Chavez Jr. to undergo Olympic-style blood testing at various intervals before the fight.
