Two-division world champion and considered widely by many to be one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world, middleweight champion Sergio ‘Maravilla’ Martinez (48-2-2, 27 KOs) of Argentina but now residing in Oxnard, California, continues his preparations for his upcoming bout against top-rated middleweight contender Matthew ‘Mack the Knife’ Macklin (28-3, 19 KOs) of Birmingham, England which takes place on St. Patrick’s Day, Saturday March 17th, the fight card titled ‘The Real Middleweight Championship’ will be broadcast live on HBO’s ‘World Championship Boxing’ from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.
Fightnews caught up with Sergio Martinez and the rest of his team for their early morning roadwork and workout. “We’re only three weeks into camp and Sergio is in great shape.” said chief trainer Pablo Sarmiento. “Sergio’s work ethic, intensity, his drive is like no other; he’s very focused for this fight and with over a month left until the fight he’s definitely going to be ready for Matthew Macklin on the 17th.” continued Sarmiento.
Following his morning workout, Martinez continues his boxing training at Sarmiento’s Boxing Gym in Oxnard,California.
In his last bout, Martinez knocked out previously undefeated European middleweight champion ‘Dazzling’ Darren Barker (23-1, 14 KOs) in the eleventh round this past October at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
