Middleweight kingpin Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KOs) touched down in NYC early yesterday, and will spend the week here, attending a number of business meetings before heading to Canastota for this weekend’s annual International Boxing Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. Last night, Martinez met with HBO executives to begin discussions for his next title defense. Likely to take place in early 2014, Sergio’s next bout will be his 11th straight on HBO, since first appearing on the network in 2008. In addition to meeting with HBO, Martinez plans on dropping by Macklin’s training camp to wish his former foe luck for his upcoming title challenge against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin on June 29. Macklin is currently preparing in NYC with head trainer Buddy McGirt.
