A source has told Fightnews.com that a meeting between WBC President Jose Sulaiman and WBC middleweight world champion Sergio Martinez is scheduled for Thursday June 27th in Mexico City. The topic of discussion is the status of Martinez after an injury to his left fist suffered during his April bout against Martin Murray in Argentina. If Martinez indicates that he must go an extended period without fighting, the WBC Board of Governors would convene and decide on a course of action. A box-off among the top four available contenders could occur or possibly a title interim vacancy could occur.
Recently Oswaldo Kuchle, Promociones del Pueblo director told Fightnews.com that he insists that his fighter the Marco Antonio “Veneno” Rubio, the current number one contender in the middleweight division, have the first option on any of the decisions that the WBC makes.
