WBC middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (45-2-2, 24 KOs) of Argentina, now residing in Oxnard, CA, began preparations this week at the World Crown Sports Training Center for his next bout. Martinez will step back into the ring on Saturday November 20th in a rematch against former two-time welterweight champion Paul “The Punisher” Williams (39-1, 27 KOs) at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ, which will be shown live on HBO’s ‘World Championship Boxing’.
These two fighters engaged in an exciting back and forth action bout last year, in which many considered to be “Fight of the Year”, that ended in a controversial loss for Martinez. Martinez then went on to claim the WBC/WBO middleweight titles from the then reigning middleweight champion Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik (36-2, 32 KOs) via unanimous decision this past April in Atlantic City, NJ. Martinez was then stripped of his WBO title, due to one of the organization’s rules, less than 2 months after having defeated Pavlik.
