WBC middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KOs) of Argentina, but now residing in Oxnard, CA, began preparations last week at the World Crown Sports Training Center for his next bout. Martinez will step back into the ring on Saturday, March 12th against WBO junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-0, 23 KOs) of Ukraine at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT which will be shown live on HBO’s ‘World Championship Boxing’.
“I am in the best shape of my career and I am going to train very hard for this fight, I will not under estimate Dzinziruk,” said Martinez. “I’m going to prepare for this fight like I have for all of my other fights; I’m going to give it 100%.”
In his last outing the middleweight king Sergio Martinez knocked out former two-time welterweight champion Paul “The Punisher” Williams (39-2, 27 KOs) with a devastating left hook in the second round in the highly anticipated rematch this past November at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ which earned him “Knock Out of the Year” and also helped earn him “Fighter of the Year” as well.
Also, in the co-feature bout Ireland’s John Duddy (29-2, 18 KOs) faces fellow countryman Andy Lee (24-1, 18 KOs) in a 10-round middleweight bout.
