Denis Shafikov easily defeated Alisher Rahimov to take the defending champion his WBC Baltic and WBC CISBB lightweight titles. With the win Shafikov earns a place in the soon to start WBC World Cup.
Shafikov started very determined with accurate combinations. Rahimov closely won the 5th and it was probably the only round he could win. Frustrated not to find a solution to the effective attacks of Shafikov he started to punch low. A first time in round 10 and a vicious low blow in round 11. He was deducted a point by referee Predrag Aleksic but this did not stop him and moments later he repeated it. The ref did not hesitate to disqualify him.
Best fight of the night was between Aslanbek Kozaev and David Avanesyan wich ended in a strange draw. Judge Tamm from Estonia scored it 112-117 for Avanesyan while Russian Filomonov had it 118-111 for Kozaev. Predrag Aleksic from Montenegro came up with a 114-114 which left both corners unhappy. It was a war from the start with Avanesyan closely winning some of the early rounds. Then seemingly tired in rounds 7 and 8, Kozaev hurted a few times Avanesyan but Avanesyan could come back and had Kozaev briefly in trouble from a left to the body in round 11. It was all action till the final bell. Kozaev retained his WBC Baltic and CISBB welterweight titles and will also participate in the WBC World Cup. Referee was Daniel Van de Wiele from Belgium.
