Former undisputed lightweight champion Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz (37-4, 17 KOs) punished Adailton DeJesus (30-8, 24 KOs) for five brutal rounds on Saturday night at the Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, Texas. Diaz jumped right on DeJesus and launched a non-stop fusillade of punches that continued until DeJesus’ corner threw in the towel in round five.
In his Top Rank debut, lightweight contender Dennis Shafikov (32-0-1, 17 KOs) secured a sixth round TKO over Santos Benavides (23-4-2, 17 KOs). Shafikov dropped Benavides in round three and then battered him until Benevides stayed on his stool between rounds six and seven.
U.S. Olympian jr welterweight Jose Ramirez (5-0, 4 KOs) blitzed Mike Maldonado (6-2, 1 KOs) in 66 seconds. Maldonado down three times.
Unbeaten lightweight Ivan Najera (12-0, 8 KOs) scored a six round unanimous decision over Roger Rosa (4-4-1, 0 KOs). Najera dropped Rosa in round one, but Rosa fought hard to the end. Scores were 59-54, 58-55, 58-55.
Welterweight Alex Saucedo (10-0, 7 KOs) needed just 60 seconds to annihilate Ramon Pena (7-4, 5 KOs). Pena was down twice.
