Shane Mosley in Panama: “I am still in boxing because I like it”

The Gym Pedro “Rockero” Alcazar of Curundú in Panama was shocked on Wednesday with the visit by three-time world champion Shane Mosley. Mosley is humble, nice and so he was seen by all the attendants in the Gym recommended to him ever since he arrived in Panama. Mosley answered some questions, made some statements to the media and said he would return at 5 after training. He contacted two young boxers to spar the trainer Rigoberto Garibaldi to support him. He said good bye and disappeared just like that. The place was shocked, all commenting on the simplicity of the fighter who is training to fight Australian Anthony Mundine on October 23.

At four in the afternoon, there were many people waiting. The word had spread and some Panamanian mass media were there, along with photographers from local newspapers. In addition, to boxing fans in who were expecting Mosley’s arrival.

Time passed while Mosley trained in Curund; and at five o’clock, we heard the cry “Mosley arrived”. There were applauses and all the journalists in attendance gathered around the boxer who is about to turn 42.

“I came to Panama with my mom to get some medical treatment, and I wanted to take advantage of my coming to this gym that is the essence of the Panamanian boxing,” said Mosley.

He also said, “I will fight on October 23 and and have to continue my training.”

He explained that he is planning to fight for 5 more years, “I am not interested in money, I fight because I like it, and I believe I still have conditions to do it. I am comfortable at 147 pounds so I can move easily to the nearby divisions,” he said as he bandaging his hands to train.

He talked about his previous opponents, he said his fight with Oscar de la Hoya was a very exciting fight, he also said all his fights had been very good, however, he said ‘if I had to choose one rematch, I would choose Floyd Mayweather Jr. He is an excellent fighter, and that fight I liked it.”

He did not mention any names of future opponents, he just smiles and says “I did what I had to do in boxing, now I want to fight to enjoy and visit places. This trip to Australia is an opportunity to do that, and if it is an international title or elimination I am grateful, but my priority is to enjoy what I do.”
