WBA #15 super middleweight Les Sherrington (24-5, 15 KOs) outpointed Joel Burke (14-18-2, 7 KOs) over eight rounds at Jupiters Casino in Townsville, Queensland, Australia on Friday. Sherrington is scheduled to meet IBF #13 Shannan Taylor on November 27. He has lost to former WBA middleweight challenger Jamie Pittman by KO4 in 2006 and dropped a 12 round decision to South African William Gare in 2008. Burke holds a eight round points victory over Ben Crampton in 2009 and in 2004 stopped former world rated Daniel “Porky” Lovett in eight rounds.
On the undercard Emmanuel Micallef (1-7-2) scored a split eight round decision over Tommy Clarke (4-3) to capture the Queensland state featherweight crown. This was Micallef’s first win as a professional but he has boxed a draw with highly regarded Fred Mundraby and dropped a split decision to Robert Lerio.
Cruiserweight Trevor Jacky (2-0) scored upset three round stoppage victory over Shaun Quagliotto (4-4-2) who had previously defeated welll credentialed Sean Connell in 2006 and boxed a six round draw with nationally rated Joel Casey in 2008.
