Several local boxers, including undefeated heavyweight prospect Jordan Shimmell (8-0, 7 KOs) will be meeting with fans and signing autographs at a fundraiser on January 18 for the Lansing, Michigan Spartans Youth Organization. The LSYO is a non-profit founded by former middleweight journeyman Kolmarge Harris which offers no cost and low cost fitness programs to economically disadvantaged youth in the greater Lansing area, a cause which the undefeated Shimmell strongly supports.
“My last fight was Jordan’s pro debut,” commented Harris, “and I appreciate that he is coming out to support us. This is an important issue that we both feel strongly about, and I am excited to have one of the top heavyweight prospects in the country coming out to support the kids!”
The LSYO is hoping to raise $5,000 at this fundraiser, which will be held from 6pm to 2am at Rum Runners Piano Bar and Dance Club in Lansing (601 East Michigan Avenue). Tickets are $5 a head and include a BBQ buffet dinner as well as the chance to meet with the undefeated Shimmell as well as several popular retired fighters from Central Michgan such as Fabian Williams (former NABF middleweight champion), Joey Stevenson (former Michigan State middleweight champion) and Jamie Stevenson.
Shimmell has excited boxing fans in Michigan by scoring six straight victories since stopping Harris in the second round in his professional debut back in June of 2012 and is widely seen as one of the better prospects to come out of Michigan in the last ten years. The LSYO is also seeking donations online. Online donations can be made via their online Facebook page.
