Felix Sturm Update

By Wolfgang Schiffbauer

WBA middleweight world champion Felix Sturm invited the media, friends, family and celebrities to celebrate the grand opening of his brand new training facility in Cologne, Germany on Tuesday. Among the guests were Germany’s soccer superstar Lukas Podolski, a close friend of the 31-years old Sturm, and many TV, music and sports personalities. Sturm and his team are eyeing a ring return on either September 4 or September 11 in Cologne, likely in the 20,000 seat Lanxess Arena. An opponent will be set at a later date. First, the legal battle between Sturm and his former promoter Universum will continue on May 27 in front of the Hamburg district court. Team Sturm expects a positive verdict in July. Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
