Showdown in Joe Town on Saturday

By Jeff Reiners

Boxing returns Saturday to St. Joseph, MO with the “Showdown in Joe Town.” Earl Walker and W-KO Promotions present a 7 bout card headlined by local favorite Galen “Bad Boy” Brown (38-22-1, 23 KOs). Brown has challenged the top heavyweights in the world over the course of 61 career bouts. Opponents on his dossier include former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman and recent Klitschko challenger Mariusz Wach.

Brown will drop to the cruiserweight division to face “The Punching Policeman” Sam Hill 17-12-1, 10 KO’s. Hill is most known for his 2001 knockout of David Reid which ended the career of the former Olympic gold medalist.

In the co-feature, former USBC bantamweight champion Andre Wilson 13-5-1 (KO’s) returns for the first time in over two years.

Wilson took time away from the ring to tend to his infant son who was born with health issues. His mind fresh and body prepared, Wilson returns after three recent knockout losses, aiming to bounce back against Ryan Pederson 2-9, 2 KO’s.

The evening will kick off with two local amateurs making their pro debut. Tristen Wagner will face David Demming in a 4 round bout and Eric Frishman will debut against Shane Nichols at 140 lbs.

Rugged St. Joseph’s welterweight Alex De Leon 4-3-1, 4 KO’s takes on Chris Tyler of St. Louis, MO. Rounding out the undercard will be Colby Courter 1-0, 1 KO and Devin Hostler.

Seats are availabe from $20 for general admission to $75 ringside. Contact W-KO Promotions at 816-294-4143 for tickets.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
