Xola Sifama knocked out Anele Makhwelo at 55 seconds into the sixth round to win the vacant South African flyweight title at the Orient Theatre in East London, South Africa on Friday night. This was a slam-bang affair that had the fans on the edge of their seats throughout with action that swayed from one boxer to other, until Sifama overwhelmed Makhwelo in the sixth round to score a knockout. Makhwelo possibly edged two of the first five rounds with some slick boxing and appeared to be getting on top before he deicide to slug it out with the rugged and stronger Sifama. Makhwelo’s record dropped to 10-1, with four knockouts, and Sifama improved his record to 8-2-1; 4. The referee Siya Vabaza erred as Sifama’s final right to the head came when Makwhelo was kneeling on the canvas. She also picked up the count immediately without sending Sifama to the neutral corner. The tournament was presented by Siphatho Handi of Mamli Promotions.
