By Enrico “Erik” Crociati

Italian contender Matteo Signani (9-3-1, 4KOs) earned the domestic title at middleweight on Friday night in his hometown Savignano sul Rubicone, Italy, when defending champion Gaetano Nespro (15-6, 2KOs) was stopped in round eight due to a dangerous cut of a left eye by referee Luciano Nigro. It was a brutal and bloody fight, with a football-like atmosphere with competing fans screaming loudly to support their hero. Both fighters showed good physical condition, Signani was the aggressor and started the contest at a high pace, trying to bring the fight to Nespro, but the veteran of national fights used an effective orthodox skill of boxing to gain the control of the clash, many of the rounds following a similar pattern, the moment of truth and the end of the fight was after the ringside doctor checked the dangerous cut, the ref stopped the action and awarded the local hero a TKO win, the final outcome was the only bad point of the night, the fight was still open to any outcome and it would be correct another (the third) contest among the two. Sergio Cavallari promoted with Rai Sport Più televising. (Thanks to Claudio Guglielmo of Boxenet)
