Silva-Sonnen II moved to UFC 148

Aldo to fight at 147

By Anthony Springer Jr.

The long awaited rematch between reigning UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will still take place–just not on the champ’s home turn of Brazil, the UFC announced today.

Due to scheduling conflicts with a United Nations event in the country, the world’s biggest MMA promotion is pulling its blockbuster main event and moving it to July’s UFC 148 card in Las Vegas.

UFC 147 is still scheduled to take place June 23, but a new venue is currently being sought. The original venue, Joao Havelange Stadium would’ve shattered the UFC’s all time attendance record of 55,000 plus.

UFC 147 will keep its co-headlining bout of Vitor Belfort vs. Wanderlei Silva II.

Hometown hero Jose Aldo will likely be added to the card. UFC 147 will also featu8re the tournament finales for The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil.

In other news, UFC President Dana White also announced that light heavyweight champion Jon Jones may face Dan Henderson at UFC 149.
