Cruiserweights Michael Simms (20-11-2, 13 KOs) and ex-IBF champ Kelvin Davis (24-10-3, 17 KOs) fought to a controversial draw on Friday night at the Red Lion Hotel in Sacramento. The bout was announced as an eight rounder, however after six rounds the Simms corner cut off his gloves and the bout was announced as a draw with scores of 58-56 Simms, 58-56 Davis, and 57-57. Apparently the California Commission had only approved the bout as a six round bout, but the Davis camp claimed they had never been informed of this. Promoter Nasser Naivoroni said Simms will next get a shot at NABF champ Matt Godfrey.
