Simon headlines June 26

By Rick Scharmberg

Former world title challenger and current USBA middleweight champion Lajuan “Simply Marvelous” Simon (22-2-2, 12 KOs), of Philadelphia, PA will face Jose Angel “Silver Boy” Rodriguez (15-1-1, 2 KOs), of Bronx, NY in a ten round non-title bout at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino on Saturday June 26. Simon, rated #8 in the IBF and #13 in the WBA, received high marks for his March 14, 2009 strong effort against then-IBF middleweight champ Arthur Abraham. Rodriguez is coming off a nice win over Darnell Boone in January. Promoter Dave Escalet of Fisticuff Productions said, “Rodriguez is a tough fighter, and Lajuan has to win these types of fights to get ready for another title opportunity.”

In the six round junior middleweight co-feature, Russell “Spiderman” Jordan (17-7, 10 KOs), of Rochester, NY will face Mustafah Johnson (8-6-1, 2 KOs), of Indianapolis, IN.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
