John-Hosono ends in tech draw

By Jeff Pamungkas at ringside

A WBA featherweight title bout between “super” champion Chris John (48-0-3, 22 KOs) and Satoshi Hosono (23-2-1, 17 KOs) ended in a technical draw on Sunday at the Indoor Tennis Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia. A head clash in round three left John with a bad vertical cut over his right eye and the bout was stopped before going the required four rounds. John retains his title for the 18th time.

South African featherweight Simpiwe Vetyeka (25-2, 15 KOs) scored a come-from-behind twelfth round TKO to dethrone IBO featherweight titleholder Daud Cino Yordan (30-3, 23 KOs). Yordan seemed headed to a clear unanimous decision win, but Vetyeka floored him in the last round and then got the stoppage with his follow-up barrage.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
