Macbute Sinyabi makes the second defense of his South African junior featherweight title against number one challenger Luyanda Mrawuli at the Orient Theatre in East London on Friday night. This will be the 22-year-old Sinyabi’s second title fight in three weeks. On May 24 he blasted out Desmond Samuels in 98 seconds.
Sinyabi has won 11 of his 12 fights inside the distance and his only loss came in January 2007 in Carletonville when he was knocked out in the first round by Bongani Mahlangu. However, after this setback he kept on knocking them over and in March 2008 he won the vacant SA junior featherweight title with a first round stoppage over Tshepo Mofokeng.
In his most recent fight in August 2008 Mrawuli who has a reported record of 8-5-2 outpointed the experienced Vuyani Phulo over ten rounds. In a previous fight with Phulo they fought to a draw. In June 2007 Mruwali pushed Oscar Chauke all the way in losing on a majority decision when challenging for the SA junior featherweight title. If he brings the same form into the ring against Sinyabi he could give the champion a stern challenge.
The tournament is presented by Sipho Handi of Mamali Promotions.
Meanwhile it has been reported that Lungisi Dlamini will defend his WBF lightweight belt against Mark Davis of the US on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez fight in Las Vegas on July 18.
