Lwandile Sityatha and Morris Lento battled to a 12 round majority draw for the South African and vacant WBA Pan African flyweight titles at the Orient Theatre in East London on Sunday afternoon. Joe Chaane and Simpiwe Mbini scored the fight 115-115 and 114-114 whilst judge Lulama Mtya had it 115-113 for Sityatha. Siyatha retained his South African title for the second time and the WBA Pan African title remained vacant.
Siyatha the more skilled fighter allowed the unorthodox southpaw Lento to unsettle him which resulted in a rather untidy affair. Neither fighter took control at anytime and possibly a draw was a fair result. Sityatha’s record went to 16-2-1, 7 KOs and Lento the mandatory challenger for the SA title finished with a reported record of 11-2-1. The referee was Siya Vabaza-Booi.
