Luzuko Siyo makes the second defence of his South African junior flyweight title when he faces interim champion Bongani Silila at the Orient Theatre in East London on Sunday afternoon. Siyo from Duncan Village but fights out Mdantsane is undefeated and has a record of 10 wins with 8 coming inside the distance. He has been out of action for fifteen months due to a hand injury.
In the interim Silila of Mdantsane who has a reported record of 7-1, 4 KOs, won the interim title in September last year when he outpointed Mfundo Gwyana (14-5-2) over 12 rounds in East London.
Siyo who has power in both hands made his pro debut on September 29, 2008 with a third round stoppage win over Sinethemda Magibesela. In 2010 he scored victories Luyanda Nkwanka (tko 3), Simphiwe Khonco (tko 4), Motswaki Moselsele (pts 6) and Sizwe Qwemeshe (tko 6). He won the vacant South African junior flyweight title in Port Alfred on June 3, 2011 when he knocked out Monwabisi Ngundwana in the eighth round and Oct 23 retained the title with a first round stoppage win over Sebolomzi Zimela.
Silila made his pro debut in August 2008 with a first round technical knockout against Khangeleni Jack and his third fight in June 2009 suffered his only loss to date when he was outpointed over six rounds by Thandikhaya Varhile. After this setback he scored wins over Mkhulluli Dukwana (pts 4), Anathi Magopheni (tko 1), Sinethemba Magibisela (pts 6) and Mandisi Mkile (tko 9) before winning the interim title.
On the undercard in a junior flyweight bout Luthando Baneti faces Thandikhaya Varhile who holds a victory over Silila.
