Smith outpoints Sithsaithong

Former Australian lightweight champion Brett “Handful” Smith (15-1-1, 7 KOs) scored a clear twelve round points victory over Chaiyong Sithsaithong (28-9-3, 21 KOs) at the Mansfield Tavern, Brisbane , Queensland, Australia on Friday. Smith dropped Sithsaithong in round two but the tough Thai had the Aussie in trouble in round four. Smith regained control of the fight in round five and dropped Sithsaithong again in round ten. The game Thai boxer made Smith work hard for the points in round eleven and twelve and referee Steve Marshall raised Smith’s hand at the end of a crowd pleasing bout. Scores 119-108, 117-109, 120-106.

Smith’s only loss is to world class Australian based – Filipino Jack Asis. He captured the IBF Australasian title. Sithsaithong was a regular sparring partner of Michael Katsidis when he previously trained in Thailand

In the main supporting contest, classy female super bantamweight Shannon O’Connell (5-1, 3 KOs) clearly outscored Jubjang Lookmakamwan (3-5) over eight rounds. O’Connell holds a victory over IBF world rated Michelle Preston.

Featherweight Jason “Nugget” Copper (4-1-1, 2 KOs) captured the Queensland state tile with a eight round decision win over Emmanuel Micallef (2-9-3). Cooper boxed a draw with Micallef in 2011.

Cruiserweight Balazs Varga (6-3,4 KOs) stopped Walter Pupu’a (12-19, 8 KOs) in round four of a scheduled six

Middleweight Steve Moxon (4-0, 3 KOs) scored fifth round stoppage of Aswin Cabuy (13-34-3, 6 KOs)

Cruiserweight Philip Maley (6-3-1, 5 KOs) scored an impressive second round knockout of former Pakistan Olympian Kashif Mumtaz (8-31-1, 6 KOs).
