Jorge “Coloradito” Solis of Mexico will battle Likar Ramos of Colombia for the WBA interim super featherweight title on Saturday, February 6 in Merida Yucatan in a card promoted by Promociones Zanfer. The big card was announced today in Merida in a press conference. Solis (32-2-2, 27 KOs) of Guadalajara, Mexico is looking for his first world title fight against the champion Ramos (21-2, 15 KOs). Solis is the older brother of Ulises “Archie” Solis the former IBF junior flyweight champion.
“This is my second opportunity to win a world title and I want to win it this time. It’s going to be a great fight and I hope the fans will come out to support me,” said Solis, who last year lost to Cristobal Cruz in a battle for the IBF featherweight championship.
Solis who has fought the likes of Humberto Soto and Manny Pacquiao is looking forward to the challenge.
“Ramos is a very explosive puncher, so I will need to box him and attack him at my pace. I know I can win this fight and that’s why I will train very hard for this fight,” said Solis.
In the co-main event local undefeated contender Ramon Mass (18-0, 12 KOs) will take on German Meraz (25-13-1, 9 KOs) in a 10 round super bantamweight bout.
Mario Abraham who is the co-promoter for this show hopes to bring more big time fights to what once was one of the biggest fight towns in Mexico and home to many world champions such as Miguel Canto, Guty Espadas Sr and Freddy Castillo.
“2010 will be a big year of boxing here in Merida with the help of Fernando Beltran and Promociones Zanfer. We still have a lot of talent here in Merida and we need to give them an opportunity to showcase it,” said Abraham.
The fight will be televised in Mexico by TV Azteca.
