Solis ready to shine

Jorge “Coloradito” Solis is a world champion in his own right, but on Saturday night he will not only be a challenger but also the underdog to undefeated Cuban sensation Yuriorkis Gamboa who will put up his WBA and IBF featherweight world championship against the tough Mexican in the main event of “Featherweight Fury” to take place at the Adrian Phillips Ballroom at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City and to be televised by HBO on “Boxing After Dark.”

“I am not selling myself short. I took this fight because I truly believe I can win it and that’s what I am here to do: win it,” said Solis, today in Atlantic City. Solis is the WBA Interim Super Featherweight champion and has lost only twice in his professional career, one to Manny Pacquiao and another one to former IBF Featherweight champion Cristobal Cruz in a title fight so close, that some people felt that Solis had won it.

“I have to admit that against Pacquiao I was not ready for that type of fight and was overwhelmed. This time I am more mature and feel that I am a much better fighter then I was then” said Solis.

Solis an excellent boxer with great defensive skills that figures to give Gamboa a difficult fight because of his style.

“I am a very good boxer and know how to use the ring. My defense is better then most, but I know that if I have to be aggressive I can be, and will need to test Gamboa’s chin because I know he can be dropped,” said Solis.

In the co-feature bout, undefeated Matt Remillard will put his NABO and NABF featherweight titles on the line against the also undefeated Mickey Garcia in what figures to be a great battle between two young world ranked contenders.

In another fight that has the town buzzing, unbeaten Teon Kennedy of Philadelphia will take on Jorge Diaz from New Jersey in a battle of young undefeated prospects. And in a very special feature four round heavyweight bout Baltimore Raven’s safety, Tommy Zbikowski will take on Caleb Grummet of Michigan.

The weight-in is schedule for Friday at 5:00 PM, (local time) at the Palladium Ballroom A at Caesars Atlantic City.
