Solis risking title shot

Light flyweight contender Ulises “Archie” Solis (30-2-2, 21 KOs) says he’s set for Saturday’s nationally televised clash against Eric Ortiz (30-9-3, 21 KOs) on Saturday night in Reno, Nevada. Both fighters are former world champions, but Solis is putting a guaranteed shot at the IBF title on the line by accepting this fight. “I know I’m risking a lot,” said Solis. “I have much to lose and nothing to gain from Ortiz, but risk always exists in boxing and I didn’t want to be idle for so long so we accepted the bout Saturday in Reno.” For this fight, Solis prepared for six weeks in Guadalajara under the guidance of Lorenzo Lopez. “As always, we are in excellent physical condition to prevent surprises. We know how dangerous and experienced Ortiz is and will come out victorious,” promised the former champion, who in his last fight defeated Bert Batawang in a world title eliminator.
