When WBC flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro-Singwangcha landed in Tokyo, he immediately proceeded with his training at the famed Teikken Gym owned by Hall of Fame promoter Akihiko Honda. “Sonny Boy is just having light training. We are just keeping him at the top condition until fight night. He is definitely ready,” Trainer/Manager Aljoe Jaro told this scribe. Jaro further stated that he saw Igarashi train in the gym and has observed that there is not much height difference between him and Sonny Boy but Sonny has more developed muscles than the Japanese contender.
Meanwhile, another Filipino Warrior prepares himself in the same gym for a crack at a world title. Michael Farenas was also at the gym with advisor boxing legend Gerry Penalosa. According to Penalosa, “Mike has trained like this is a matter of life and death. This might probably be his first and last chance at a world title. He is not getting any younger. Uchiyama is the heavy favorite but we will do our best to bring that belt home to the Philippines.”
In closing, Sonny Boy Jaro exclaimed, “I am very confident in this fight. I was happy with my training regime. Kuya Aljoe (Jaro) has done everything to ensure our victory, I will only do my part. Battles are won in the gym. Come fight night, I will just give the people a good show and go home to my country with my precious belts. I am not overconfident, Igarashi earned his shot through hard work. But come July 16, my haters will just shake their head in frustration. To my Kababayans, please pray for me.”
