The very popular WBC light-flyweight champion Edgar Sosa expects a tough contest for his eighth title defense against hard-punching Pornsawan Porpramook of Thailand in Cuidad Victoria this Saturday. The fight will be the first world title bout held in this central western Mexican city, birthplace of WBC President Jose Sulaiman. It promises to be an entertaining matchup of styles between Sosa (34-5,18 KOs), a boxer-puncher, and the hard-hitting Porpramook (21-2, 16 KOs), who is moving up from the lower 105lb division.
The Thai visitor has expressed that the added weight gives him even more power and predicts a knockout victory: ” I don’t believe Sosa’s jaw is the best and I am going into this fight looking for the knockout.”
The Mexican champion and the Thai visitor have had one common opponent in Filipino Sonny Boy Jaro. Sosa was knocked down by Jaro in a title defense last year while Porpramook stopped Jaro in five rounds.
“I have been warned that he( Pornsawan) packs a lot of power,” comments Sosa, “and I know this fight is no picnic. I plan to fight a smart fight but without backing down. If he attacks recklessly, I’ll make him pay.”
The Thai puncher has had two previous title challenges in the strawweight division, losing decisions.
The rest of the card, promoted by Fausto Daniel Garcia, will offer entertaining bouts with crowd favorites Reyes Sanchez, Mia St John and former world Champ Guty Espada Jr with live transmission by Televisa. The card will be dedicated to the memory of Mexican boxing great Raul “Raton” Macias who passed away last week.
