Inhabitants of the Colonia Constitucion in Mexico City heeded the call from former WBC light flyweight champion Edgar Sosa to come to the help of earthquake victims in Haiti, providing canned foods, medicine and water. Sosa, a very popular sports figure in Mexico, had this to say, “We cannot be indifferent to the tragedy in Haiti and I’m hoping that Mexicans everywhere will join us in this humanitarian effort.”
Promoter Jacques Deschamps informs that junior welterweight Evens Pierre (12-0, 11 KOs) and junior featherweight Johny Orisme (4-1, 1 KO) have been found alive. Pierre, however, lost his house in the powerful earthquake that wrecked havoc on the Caribbean Island last week. “We were training in our gym when everything started to shake. We were able to run out of there before the gym collapsed” declared Pierre. Also safe was young amateur Wilson Supreme who will be turning pro soon. Prospects Pierre and Orisme live and fight out of Panama.
