WBC super featherweight interim champion Humberto Soto (46-7-2, 29 KOs) avenged his controversial DQ loss to Francisco Lorenzo (33-5, 14 KOs) last June by scoring a twelve round unanimous decision over Lorenzo on Saturday night at Parque Andres Quintana Roo in Cozumel, Mexico. It was a much more competitive encounter than their first fight with Lorenzo fighting furiously all the way through. Soto’s class prevailed, however, as he won 118-108, 117-109, 117-109. With the win, Soto became the WBC’s full champion and may now drop the interim moniker. The referee was Jay Nady, who deducted points from Lorenzo for fouls in round seven and eight.
Former WBC featherweight champion Guty Espadas Jr (44-7, 28 KOs) won a lop-sided ten round technical decision over journeyman Fredy Blandon (9-16, 5 KOs). The bout was stopped at 1:37 of the tenth after an unintentional headbutt cut Espadas over the left eye. Scores were 100-91, 100-90, 100-90.
Unbeaten lightweight Antonio Lozada Jr (18-0, 16 KOs) was forced to go the distance for the second time in his career. Lozada won a six round unanimous decision over late sub Tomas Sierra (10-7).
