Undefeated young light heavyweight prospect Ismayl “The Black Russian” Sillakh (11-0, 10 KOs) has signed a promotional agreement with Roy Jones, Jr.’s Square Ring Promotions, it was announced today by Chief Executive Officer John Wirt. “We’re extremely excited about signing this kind of young talent,” said Wirt. “We are making a statement by stepping up to sign this future star.” Jones, in Los Angeles for a press conference promoting his scheduled April 3 date in Las Vegas with rival Bernard Hopkins added “After meeting this hard-punching young Ukranian, I was very impressed. These kind of talents come around very rarely and we’re fortunate to have him join our team.”
The 25-year old Shilakh was born in Zaporozhye, Ukraine and now lives in Simi Valley, Calif. He turned pro on July 18, 2008 and has registered his last seven contests by knockout. The 6’2” tall Sillakh, had an amateur record boasting 302 victories against just 16 defeats. “I feel we made a sensational deal with Square Ring, who were the promoters we wanted to be with,” said manager Ivalyo Gotzev, who also guided former world heavyweight champions Samuel Peter and Sergei Liakhovich. “His star will rise in the light heavyweight division. He’s a superstar in the making with talents like Muhammad Ali ,Sugar Ray Leonard and Roy Jones, Jr.. This is all very special.”
Possible opponents for Sillakh are being discussed for inclusion in The Rivals: Hopkins vs. Jones II on Saturday, April 3 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on pay-per-view.
