From today’s press conference at the MGM:
Floyd Mayweather: “Come Saturday night it’s going to be the same Floyd Mayweather. I’m pretty sure he’s going to be the same Victor Ortiz. But the difference between me and you is my ability to adjust and adapt. I’m versatile. I’m a good finisher too. You’re trainer said I was dirty, but when I hit you and hurt you, don’t grab me. I’m going to finish you off.”
Victor Ortiz: “Forty one of those fighters that couldn’t beat you weren’t me. Forty one of those couldn’t win it like me. On Saturday night I will put my hands up and I’m going to put you on your ass!”
Danny Garcia (Ortiz’s trainer): “(Floyd Mayweather) was one of the best fighters. He was pound for pound champion. But now its our time. We’re here to beat him. Victor is ready to do everything he can to take the victory. He trained very hard. He’s here to takeover his place. He’s going to be the number one pound for pound fighter for sure.”
Alfonso Gomez (via Internet feed): It’s the opportunity of a lifetime to fight Saul Alvarez; especially because this weekend is Mexican Independence Day. I want to showcase my talents to the millions of viewers. It’s a dream come true. I consider this the most important fight of my career because of what’s at stake. Winning this fight will change my life.
Saul Alvarez (via Internet feed): “I’m very happy to be in the main event at Staples Center. I never dreamed I’d be a champion at this age but it’s an honor to be in this position.”
Erik Morales: “It will be a great fight. We’re here and I hope to be the one winning. I say I hope because it’s never written. It’s Gods will. But I’m very confident that I will come out with my hand raised.”
Pablo Cesar Gano: “I’m very excited. My whole life has been about challenges. This is a big challenge but I’m ready and looking forward to it. I know it’s not going to be an easy task fighting a legend like Erik Morales. But I’m a great fighter. I’m here because I will win on Saturday night.”
