Stewart-Santiago at Dover Downs!

By Rick Scharmberg

This Friday marks the return of former junior welterweight contender, and former Contender star Michael “No Joke” Stewart. He will face Luis Alberto Santiago (18-8-2, 11 KOs), of Philadelphia, PA at the Rollins Center inside Dover Downs Hotel and Casino in Dover, DE. Stewart (47-7-2, 23 KOs), of New Castle, DE, looks to return to the form that led him to the top of the IBF rankings where he faced the likes of Ricky Hatton in a title eliminator, and Sharmba Mitchell for the interim IBF light welterweight title in 2004. Stewart and Santiago will be fighting for the WBF intercontinental welterweight title. The promoter is Capital City Promotions.

Fighting on the under card will be the extremely popular WBF All-Americas heavyweight champion Mark “Oak Tree” Brown (14-1, 7 KOs). He will face Mike Miller (6-13-2, 3 KOs) in a six round heavyweight bout.

Former world title challenger Larry “The Laser” Marks (29-10-1, 16 KOs) will also make an appearance, when he faces tough Willis “The Prophet” Lockett (10-7-5, 4KOs) in a six round super middleweight bout.

“Mighty” Mike Tiberi (7-1, 4 KOs) is the latest in a long line of fighting Tiberis. Making his first appearance at Dover Downs, Mike will face Vincent Robbins (3-8-2, 3 KOs) in a four round middleweight contest.

Mike Denby (2-2-2, 2 KOs) will face slick Oscar Vasquez (2-1) in a classic boxer versus puncher match-up. They will meet in a four round junior welterweight bout.

Bernard “Road Dog” Miller (1-1-1) will fight a rematch with Rakeem Carter in a four round junior middleweight bout. Miller, a local favorite, is a marvelous physical specimen at age 47, and will be fighting in his final bout.
