With a final sparring session over the weekend, WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz closed out his intense preparations for his title defense against challenger Yuzo Kiyota from Japan on Saturday at the Energy Verbund Arena in Dresden, Germany. “In the very last round of sparring, it really became clear to me that I am in top shape,” said Stieglitz. “Everything is going according to plan, and the last hard hit in the last round of sparring was like a signal that I can finally go on to Dresden! I am looking forward to getting the Japanese fighter in front of my fists.”

On Monday, Stieglitz will meet Kiyota for the first time at a press conference to usher in “fight week” in Dresden. Also on hand will be Stieglitz’ SES Boxing stablemates female middleweight champion Christina Hammer, WBO European champion Lukas Konecny, German heavyweight champion Michael Wallisch and light heavyweight contender Robin Krasniqi.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
