Joey Stiglingh and Jasper Seroka meet in what could be a closely contested fight for the vacant African Boxing Union lightweight title at Emperors Palace near Kempton Park on Monday night. In their first match on September 24, 2011 at Emperors Palace, Seroka (21-4, 9 KOs) won on points over eight rounds.
Since that setback Stiglingh (15-2, 9 KOs) has had three fights scoring a third round knockout win over Vuyolethu Sirai and then lost on points against the talented Sipho Taliwe (18-2-1) in a challenge for the WBC International super featherweight title. In his most recent fight on December 8, 2012 in Makapanstad he was just too strong for Goodman Zanempi and won on a second round stoppage.
Seroka won the vacant African Boxing Union super featherweight title in July 2008 with a points victory over Gabriel Phakula and in his next fight took the South African junior lightweight title on a wide points decision over Godfrey Nzimande. He made a successful defence of the title against Wandile Mseluku and was then stopped in the sixth round against Mzonke Fana in an IBF junior lightweight title eliminator.
In a clash for the vacant South African junior lightweight title in November 2009 he was outpointed by Sipho Taliwe. In a return match with Taliwe in November 2011 he was once again outpointed when challenging for the WBC International super featherweight title.
The gutsy Stiglingh will have to lift his game against the more experienced Seroka in fight that should go to a points decision.
On the undercard former South African light heavyweight champion Johnny Muller meets Kizito Ruhamnye from the Democratic Republic of the Congo over six rounds.
Other bouts: All over four rounds: Junior welterweight: Paul Kamanga v Thulani Mbata; Junior welterweight: Adam de Moor v Tshisiwa Munya; Lightweight: Allan Bouwer v Rofhiwa Maemu; Featherweight over six rounds: Ashly Dlamini v Mbulelo Transvaal.
The tournament is presented by Jeff Ellis of African Ring in conjunction with Golden Gloves Promotions.
