Heavyweights Bermaine Stiverne and Chris Arreola hosted a kickoff press conference on Thursday for their ESPN-televised May 10 showdown for the vacant WBC heavyweight title at the USC Galen Center in Los Angeles.
Chris Arreola: I’m ready for this fight. I’ve been waiting for this fight right after I got out of that ring and got my ass kicked by Bermaine Stiverne. I got caught by a punch that I didn’t see coming and what’s what happens when you fight a world class athlete like Bermaine Stiverne…My nose was broken after the third round. I was wounded. I should have been out of that fight. Any round after that he should have stopped me. Personally I’m not that kind of fighter. If I see someone wounded, if I see someone hurt, I’m taking his ass out. That’s my intention on May 10th, to do to him what he did to me…I guarantee you on May 10th I’m gonna come out with my hand raised.
Bermaine Stiverne: May 10th I will be crowned heavyweight champion of the world. It’s not about shape, it’s about skills. I have better skills and I’m always in shape. I don’t have anything personal against Chris. I do think the best heavyweights out there are Chris and I…I’m not saying I’m going to walk over Chris easily or a walk in the park. It’s going to be hard because I know what Chris brings to the table. It’s gonna be a good fight.
