Unbeaten middleweight Yves Studer (24-0, 6 KOs) has been forced to bow out of a proposed April 17 clash for the European crown against defending EBU champion Matthew Macklin. Studer underwent an operation on his right hand to remove a bone fragment and the recovery time will not allow enough time to train for the bout. “Of course the disappointment is great,” said Studer, who holds the EBU External European belt. “But certainly I’ll get this chance again soon. The interest of Hatton Promotions shows that I’m one of Europe’s top boxers who’s able to win the belt of overall European champion.” Studer is already slated to defend his EBU-EE title for the third time on May 29 in Kursaal, Bern, Switzerland against an opponent to be named.
