Earlier today, WBA middleweight super champion Felix Sturm and his IBF counterpart Daniel Geale came face-to-face at the final press conference for their Saturday night unification fight at the KoenigPilsener-Arena in Oberhausen, Germany.

Both fighters displayed confidence but also respect for their opponent. “I’ve been dreaming about this fight for many, many years”, Sturm told the assembled media. “Now I’m here and my dream is coming true. I will do my best to impose my tactics on him and make him pay for his mistakes. He is a great fighter but I’m quite sure that I’ll win on Saturday night.”

“I love fighting over here”, a seemingly relaxed Geale offered to the press. “He is one of the best fighters in the world but I’m sure that I can and will beat him.” It is the second time that the Australian steps into a ring on German soil. In May 2011, he defeated Sebastian Sylvester in his hometurf of Neubrandenburg to capture the IBF 160lbs strap.

The only tension arose in Essen today, when reporters asked Sturm about newly crowned WBO supermiddleweight champion Arthur Abraham, who defeated Robert Stieglitz last Saturday to win the title. “He fought the worst of the titleholders at 168”, Sturm said. “As soon as he will fight another top guy, he will lose again. They are using my name to get attention but I don’t care, I know I’m the better fighter. Besides, I don’t believe he would fight me anytime soon.” The WBA champ decided to focus on the topic on hand, though: “My mind is set on Geale. We can talk about the future sometimes next week.”
