The heavy thud of leathered fists on bone replaces the sharp crack of pelotas whistling off the walls at Casino Miami Jai Alai once again when world-class boxing takes center stage Saturday, August 10th. Legendary trainer Al Bonanni presents local fans a seven-bout card called “Summer Slugfest” under the auspices of his Tiburon Promotions banner. The “Slugfest” boasts some heavy hitting action, headlined by former Haitian Olympian and Golden Gloves champ Azea “The Haitian Hitman” Augustama in a ten-round light heavyweight “War” against Pennsylvania veteran Rayco “War” Saunders.
Bonanni is sticking to his stated goal of promoting young local talent throughout the card, which includes Miami fan favorite Jessy Cruz in a six-round tussle with Lamar Charlton of Ocala.
Looking to leverage the excitement of his first-round knockout victory this March is Egyptian-born light heavyweight Ahmed Elbiali taking on Jerrod Caldwell for four rounds.
Super flyweight and former Golden Glover Luis Diaz of Mexico takes on Dominican Oscar Valdez in a four-rounder. Super featherweight Adrian Perez of Honduras makes his pro debut against “The Fighting Jockey” Jose Rivera of Puerto Rico.
Light middleweight Adel Torre of Cuba will step in against Honduran-born Harold Calderon for four rounds. Heavyweight Shane Chess makes his second consecutive visit to the Casino Miami Jai Alai when he battles Mexican Carlos Reyes in their four-round affair.
Tickets are already on sale for $15, $25 and $75. Fans may purchase online at www.ticketmaster.com or from the Casino Miami Jai Alai box office at (305) 633-6400.
