At Leisure Centre in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, UK, English heavyweight titleholder Tyson Fury (10-0, 8 KOs) scored another first-round TKO in a virtual mismatch against weak German Hans-Joerg Blasko (9-4, 6 KOs). Blasko was down after a huge body shot by Fury and was finished with a barrage of punches soon thereafter. Time of stoppage was 2:14 of the first.
Both local boy Gary Sykes and heated rival Andy Morris entertained a roaring crowd in the next edition of “War of Roses” between Yorkshire and Lancashire fighters. Bigger and stronger Sykes (15-0, 4 KOs) pressed forward throughout the entire fight while smaller but technically sounder Andy Morris (18-3, 6 KOs) used his skills and tried to box on distance rather than to battle in close quarters. At the end it turned out that Sykes was a better man tonight, cruising to a unanimous decision with scores 115-114 (twice) and 116-113. Fightnews scored this back-and-forth action a draw 115-115. Sykes is a new BBBofC British super featherweight titlist after this win.
