Tapia, Holm, Villa

Tapia imprisoned: Former world champion Johnny Tapia has been deemed a habitual offender by an Albuquerque judge, for violating probation on a drug conviction. He is looking to serve a mandatory one-year prison sentence.

Holm returns:  Holly Holm will return to action on December 4 in Albuquerque. The six-time world champion in three weight divisions is seeking a top name to take on, anywhere from 140 to 154.

Villa a free agent: Former contender Tomas Villa, of Midland, Texas, who last fought against Rogers Mtagwa last December, in a fight many considered the best of 2008, is looking to return to the ring. Villa informs Fightnews that he has been a free agent since July and not only looks to make a ring return, but is negotiating with promoters. –– Chris Cozzone

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
