Cruiserweight Andres “Taylor Made” Taylor won the highly anticipated eight round rematch against Leo Bercier before a huge hometown crowd at the War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on Saturday night. Controlling the action from the opening bell, Taylor weathered a late rush from Bercier to take a unanimous decision by scores of 79-73, 78-74 and 78-74 and retain his WBF Cruiserweight Title. In the first bout, Bercier won a six round unanimous decision over Taylor in an outstanding six round war on June 27, 2009 in Youngstown, Ohio. With the win, Taylor moves to 11-1-1 (6KO’s), while Bercier of Great Falls, Montana, falls to 8-11-1 (4KO’s).
In the co-main event, popular Pittsburgh welterweight Jesse Lubash stayed undefeated with a one punch knockout of Mounds View, Minnesota native James Wayka. Lubash improves his undefeated record to 13-0-0 (8KO’s), while Wayka moves to 16-9-1 (8KO’s).
In a special attraction welterweight bout, Russian welterweight Habib Allahverdiev made short work of Phoenix, Arizona’s Francisco Rios- Gil, dropping him with a smashing left hook body shot in the first round, from which Rios- Gil could not recover. Allahverdiev improves his unbeaten record to 11-0-0 (6KO’s), while Rios-Gil falls to 17-12-0 (12KO’s).
Former amateur standout Terence Crawford thrilled the crowd, dropping Steve Marquez of Fort Morgan, Colorado three times in the first round, the final one under a barrage of punches which stopped the fight. The 22 year old Crawford, of Omaha, Nebraska improves to 9-0-0 (6KO’s), while Marquez fell to 9-15-1 (6KO’s).
Starting off the evening, Russian heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov drilled Ryan Shay to the canvas three times with devastating body shots to earn the stoppage at 2:06 of the first stanza. The heavy handed Abdusalamov improved to 6-0-0 (6KO’s), while Fort Mills, South Carolina’s Shay fell to 5-8-0 (4KO’s).
