Ten Count for Mayen Sr.

Guillermo Mayen Sr., of Promociones Mayen in Tijuana, Mexico, passed away Thursday. He was a pioneer in boxing promoting shows in Mexico, especially in Tijuana. His son, Guillermo “Memo” Mayen Jr., followed in his footsteps after his father retired in the 1983. Together the father and son team helped to begin the careers of many fighters’ with the most notables being: Julio Cesar Chavez, Erik Morales, Ramon “Yory Boy” Campas and Antonio Margarito. With the guidance of his father, Memo took Promociones Mayen to a new level of promoting frequently selling out events every Monday of every week from the early 1980’s to mid-1990’s with cards at the Auditorio Municipal de Tijuana and the Plaza de Toros – El Toreo de Tijuana. A private service was held Friday afternoon and a public celebration of his life is scheduled for the coming days. He is survived by all the boxing fans in Tijuana, the region and of his era.
