Tete wins WBA Pan Africa title

By Ron Jackson

Makazole Tete of Mdantsane won the vacant WBA Pan African flyweight title when he outpointed former South African flyweight champion Doctor Ntsele from Thabong, Free Staete over 12 rounds at the Orient Thetare in East London on Sunday afternoon. Tete did well in the first three rounds but let Ntsele come back into the fight in the middle rounds. However, Tete finished strongly to take the decision as the judges scored it 117-112, 117-111 and 116-111. Tete improved his reported record to 9-0-1, 6 KOs and Ntsele’s record dropped to 17-6-1, 11 KOs.

On the undercard former South African junior featherweight champion Macbute Sinyabi (22-3, 18 KOs) outscored Tello Litebe whose record was unavailable, over eight rounds.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
