Below is the text of the January 6 letter from WBC President Jose Sulaiman addressed to WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal, WBC emeritus champion Bernard Hopkins, WBC #1 contender Chad Dawson:
Dear champions:
The WBC Board of Governors has voted in favor of ordering the immediate rematch between WBC champion Jean Pascal and Emeritus Champion Bernard Hopkins for the WBC light heavyweight championship of the world, where the WBC Diamond Belt will be awarded to the winner.
The winner of this fight has the obligation to fight Chad Dawson immediately without any intervening contest.
Serve this letter as the official initiation of the 30 day-free negotiation period for the immediate rematch between WBC champion Jean Pascal and Emeritus Champion Bernard Hopkins and if there is no agreement a purse will be held in Mexico City on Friday, February 4, 2011.
