WBC flyweight champion Pongsaklek Wongjonkam and WBC Flyweight champion and Oleydong Sithsanerchai met with Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on June 11 at Government House of Thailand. Wonjongkam’s Thai promoter asked the Prime Minister for Government support to promote world championship title fights in Thailand by WBC and WBA. Surprisingly, Prime Minister Abhisit replied that the IBF is the one of leading boxing organizations together with WBA and WBC. The PM also pointed out that in the past the government has supported boxing to make tickets available free to the Thai people. The government will now consider a tax deduction to help IBF/WBC/WBA boxing in Thailand.
Jimmy Chaichotchuang, the leading IBF promoter in Thailand said, “I am very proud of Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva mentioned the IBF as one of leading boxing organizations in the world.” Chaichotchuang added. “I have IBF Pan Pacific champion IBF #12 Tantong Kiattaweesuk (18-0, 11 KO’s) who has the skills and power to become IBF world bantamweight champion. I am glad to work with IBF President Daryl Peoples and look forward the opportunity to fight for the IBF world championship.”
