Brinkley, 33-5-0, (22KO’s), is coming off an outstanding twelve round unanimous decision win over long time area rival Joey Gilbert on February 14th in front of a packed house at the Reno Events Center. He is currently ranked #9 in the world by the IBF.
A native of Baltimore, MD., the aggressive, southpaw Paschall, brings a record of 19-1-1 with four knockouts into the battle with Brinkley, his only loss coming on cuts in a bout against Andre Dirrell broadcast last year on Showtime.
Paschall is coming of a terrific eight round battle against Sam Hill on April 2nd, a unanimous decision win for him.
Said Terry Lane of “Let’s Get It On” Promotions, “Jesse is willing to fight any of the world champions or top rated fighters at super middleweight or light heavyweight.”
“Since the Gilbert bout we’ve tried to make a big fight at 168 or 175 to no avail. Paschall is a tough, aggressive, strong southpaw who has promised to take the fight right at Jesse. He’s looking to capitalize on Jesse’s world ranking and sees this fight as a great opportunity.”
Said Brinkley, “I’ll go anywhere and fight any of the top guys at 168 or 175. Paschall is a tough, aggressive fighter who will provide a real challenge for me as a southpaw. I’ve seen him fight a number of times and our styles should make for a very entertaining fight for the fans.”
The 29 year old Paschall also spoke of the style matchup; “The best part of a fight like this is neither of us will have to go searching for the other. I’ve seen Jessie fight quite a bit and respect what he’s accomplished in the sport.”
“I want to test myself against a top guy and he definitely fits the bill. I know he’ll have all the fans on his side that night in Reno, but I’ll be prepared to give him the fight of his life.”
In the co-featured bout of the evening, current IBA Lightweight Champion Rustam Nugaev will see battle in his first appearance in Reno. The 26 year old Russian, now living in Los Angeles, California, has compiled a record of 19-5-1 (11KO’s) since turning professional eight years ago.
In his most recent bout on November 15th, Nugaev stopped former world title challenger Justin Juuko in the second round to win the International Boxing Association Lightweight Title. Known for his action packed bouts in Eastern Europe and more recently in the United States, Nugaev is looking to continue his rise in the world rankings in the deep lightweight division.
Also featured on the card will be the return of the Reno based Hinkey Brothers; Derek and Tyler. Middleweight Derek, 7-1-0 with seven stoppages, is coming of a devastating first round knockout of Ariel Espinal on the undercard of Brinkley/Gilbert.
Heavyweight Tyler, 5-0-1 (4KO’s), has stopped his last two opponents in the first round; Benjamin Lee on January 23rd in Las Vegas and Mike Finney on June 13, 2008 at the Reno Ballroom.
Making his first Northern Nevada appearance will be sensational lightweight prospect Bayan “THE MONGLIAN MONGOOSE” Jargal. The 27 year old Jargal,
12-0-1 (8KO’s), has thrilled boxing fans across the country with his all-action style. In his first three bouts in 2009, Jargal has stopped all three opponents, two in the first round.
The undercard will also feature two outstanding amateur boxers from the University Nevada-Reno, Ryan Kotey and Jeremy Catalano.
