Amateur world champion Jack Culcay is currently preparing with the trainer of champions Michael Timm at the Universum Gym in Hamburg as he gets ready for his pro debut. This month Universum Box-Promotion made a big investment in the 24-year-old junior middleweight’s boxing future by signing him to a three year deal with an option for three more years.

“For Jack, the learning process is very good,” said Timm, who has led eleven boxers to world championship belts. “If I show him things, he picks it up well. He takes advice, is very curious and asks many questions. It’s incredibly fun to work with him.”
So far, Culcay has completed a total of ten sessions spread over six days. His first fight will be on December 19 or in early January.
“If he’s balanced he has a good punch,” says Timm. “It hurts when it hits.” Nevertheless, technique and speed remain Culcay’s greatest strength. “He has very good reflexes,” continued Timm. “The fundamentals are in place for him and now we have to hone the subtleties.”
Culcay is currently living in a Hamburg hotel but says he’s looking forward to getting an apartment.
